About Limaye Family's Ganapati
Welcome to the Limaye Family's Ganapati site, detailing the
Ganesh Festival at Limaye Residence in Adelaide, Australia
Ganesh festival has been celebrated in our family at least from my grandfather's time. He lived in the town of Ramdurg in Karnataka and at the time of the festival, the house was painted, decorative curtains changed and a Ganesh idol was brought home on the Ganesh Chaturthi. Our family tradition was to immerse the idol only after 5 days of festivities. Ganesha Chaturthi is a big festival in Maharashtra and Karnataka, with more fire crackers used than at Diwali (if that's a scale to go by :-) !
Since we moved out of India to United Kingdom and then on to Australia we have continued the 5 day tradition with some interruption when in U.K. Initially it was a festival celebrated at home with the children but over the years has grown to its current format where devotees visit daily for prayers in the morning and the evening. Morning pooja (kaakaD aartii) is performed after reciting the ganapati-athharvashiirsha 21 times! The evening session includes bhajans, a talk on religious subjects and aaratii and partaking of prasadam. We have been using same Ganesha Idol for 30 years
Since 1989 we have been fortunate to find artists who do decorations to a theme selected by us. Please visit the Photo Gallery on the right for a description of the theme and to have a look at the photos.

Dr Sadanand Limaye, as many of you may be aware, is instrumental in starting रुद्र पठन group in Adelaide with emphasis not only on the recital part, but focusing mainly on understanding, analysing and exploring the philosophical angle of every मंत्र being recited. He regularly holds talks (before the रुद्र recital) imparting knowledge on a wide gamut of very interesting topics related to, but not limited to theology and religion.
We will endeavour to upload online copies (PDFs) of talks given by Dr Limaye, please watch this space!
